The sixth grade classes at Francis W. Parker Montessori School 56 wanted to help their peers get pumped for ISTEP+, so they called in a favor from a very special guest. Former World Heavyweight Champion boxer and Indianapolis Public Schools graduate Lamon Brewster stopped by for a motivational rally with the entire school!

“He’s been an inspiration to me and my classmates, and we know he’ll inspire you, too,” sixth grade student Amir B. said to the student body as he introduced the featured guest. Brewster spoke to Francis W. Parker students about his key ingredients for success: having confidence in yourself, working hard and never giving up. He said these steps can help you prepare for success on tests and throughout life.

“There are no limits but the ones you put on yourself,” Brewster said. “No matter how crazy your dream may be – if you follow your heart and don’t give up you can accomplish great things.”

Principal Christine Rembert said the real all-stars of the ISTEP+ rally were the students of Edna Harsley and Tiffany Alderfer’s sixth grade classes. The students came up with the idea to bring the boxing champ to their school and worked hard to make it a reality.

“You have shown skills that can’t be measured on a test,” Rembert said to the sixth grade classes at the assembly. “You worked together as a team, brainstormed ideas for this event and showed your researching skills as you learned more about Mr. Brewster. I am so proud of you all!”

We’re confident the scholars of Francis W. Parker will keep Brewster’s advice in mind as they prepare for a successful spring!
