It pays to be kind, just ask the students and staff at Harshman Middle School.
Harshman was named the winner of a nationwide Middle School Kindness Challenge in late October. The IPS school competed against 500 others across the country.
The challenge is part of an initiative to eliminate bullying in schools.
During the challenge a group of Harshman female students, led by teacher Shari Thomas — who served as the initiative advisor — went from classroom to classroom to explain the challenge to the student body.
They also organized social media campaigns and even hosted a kindness challenge cookout.
For their efforts, Harshman also receive a $5,000 check — which was presented during a surprise party on Oct. 30. The money should be used to continue the work of the kindness initiative.
Congratulations Harshman Middle School!
