The start of a new year is the perfect time to make resolutions and reflect on goals. Students and staff at Harshman Magnet Middle School shared a few of the priorities they’ll be refocusing on in 2016.

Harshman Magnet Middle School Principal James Larkin says his resolution is to focus more on commending students who are being successful while developing and growing.

“My New Year’s resolution, here at Harshman Magnet Middle School, is to reinforce our PBIS (positive behavior interventions and supports) plan and make sure that we are continually celebrating our students who strive for success and improvement, “says Principal Larkin.

Another resolution comes from Harshman Magnet Middle School Instructional Coach Kendall Crone. He says he wants to spend more time in teachers’ classrooms, actively observing and coaching.

“For the new year, I want to implement the district’s ISTEP plan with fidelity and work with my teachers in the planning process and the data analysis process so we can make the most of the ISTEP plan,” says Crone.

Students at Harshman Magnet Middle School are focusing their attention on improving their grades, and turning in assignments on time during the New Year.

“My New Year’s resolution is to bring my grade up in engineering class, and I’m going to do that by not talking during class instruction time, trying harder and asking more questions,” says Harshman Magnet Middle School 8th grader Monika N.

“My New Year’s resolution is to get an “A” in algebra. I’m going to accomplish it by turning in all my work and studying for all my tests,” says 8th grader Antonio C.

IPS is proud of the resolutions and improvements that our staff and students are striving to make during the new year. As a district, we also have resolutions and goals for 2016; find more information on our 2016 Legislative Agenda here (will hyperlink to legislative agenda story or infographic). Cheers to another successful year at IPS!
