Indianapolis Public Schools is proud to
see the hard work of our students and staff resulting in an increase in
graduation rates for the 2015-2016 school year!
According to data from the Indiana Department of Education, our most recent graduation rate is 77 percent – an increase from 72
percent for the 2014-2015 school year, and the highest rate our district has
seen in 10 years.
“Our graduation coaches — a new support
for the 2015-2016 school year — provided individualized interventions and
monitoring to ensure student success,” said Deputy Superintendent for Academics
Dr. Wanda H. Legrand.
These graduation coaches support students
in all of our high schools, working over intersessions, holiday breaks and
throughout the summer to ensure all supports are in place to guide students to
graduation. They also provide tutoring services as needed and collaborate with
families to ensure our students reach their post-secondary goals.
Graduation coaches audited our students’
transcripts, and created teams to support students who needed help getting back
on track for their graduation date. The efforts aren’t focused solely on the
senior class; coaches are in constant contact with our younger cohorts to
ensure everyone knows the importance of staying on track for graduation and is
aware of their current standing.
We are thankful for
the dedication of our graduation coaches, teachers, support staff and students,
and we look forward to continued success in our high schools!
