Indianapolis Public Schools is seeking highly-qualified candidates to join our Public Relations Division as Editorial Content Coordinator (ECC); we are seeking an experienced writer (four or more years writing for web and/or print platforms and multimedia production and editing experience) with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism or a related field.
The ECC plays a key role in supporting strategic and informative communications efforts within the district and throughout our community in alignment with IPS Strategic Plan 2015. This position serves as lead staff writer and Editor of The Achiever, our weekly e-newsletter; and enthusiastically promotes a positive district image by generating dynamic articles and storyboard outlines, production scripts and talking points to proactively publicize the district’s programs, activities and operations.
The mission of the Indianapolis Public Schools Public Relations Division (IPS PRD) is to consistently deliver high-quality service to all stakeholders by developing innovative and engaging promotions; providing timely, accurate and relevant information; enhancing community outreach and supports; and showcasing outstanding accomplishments.


Essential duties and responsibilities include:

  • Research, write, fact check and publish compelling, clear, relevant long and short-form content that speaks to the varied audiences across multiple platforms within a timely manner
  • Maintain and refresh an exciting editorial calendar and organize editorial meetings
  • Serve as project manager and/or Public Relations Division liaison with other district departments on occasion to ensure high-quality project execution and service excellence
  • Actively seek and organize opportunities to showcase district achievements and highlights on local, regional and national platforms
  • Proof/edit content for print, website and broadcast, including short news articles, features and copy for district newsletters
  • Collaborate with Public Relations Division staff to conceptualize and develop innovative editorial campaigns and ad copy
  • Establish and maintain consistent diction and style standards for messaging to implement editorial voice appropriate for each platform
  • Provide programmatic support to staff and students at media/mass communications magnet program
  • Perform or assist in the performance of administrative details as outlined by supervisor

Salary range for this position is $55,000-$65,000, aligning with education and experience. Strong editing and proofreading abilities are a must for the ECC.
