As stated in a letter from Antwan Wilson, Chancellor of D.C. Public Schools:
As we prepare to launch our next five-year strategic plan for DC Public Schools, I am excited to announce a new position that will align our academic and social emotional learning so that every student receives a robust education that will prepare them for college, career, and life. The Deputy Chancellor for Social, Emotional, and Academic Development (SEAD) will bridge our academic, family engagement, and equity work to ensure schools have the best supports possible. I’m writing today to share that Dr. Wanda H. Legrand will be our new Deputy Chancellor for Social, Emotional, and Academic Development.
Dr. Wanda H. Legrand will join DCPS from Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS), where she has served as the Deputy Superintendent for Academics since October of 2013. She has more than 24 years of experience as a professional educator and trainer, and she has worked as a corporate trainer, high school teacher, assistant principal, principal, and regional superintendent.
In Indianapolis, Dr. Legrand has been responsible for instruction district-wide. She has led IPS staff in planning, implementing, and evaluating academic programs, including curriculum, assessments and professional development. She holds a Doctorate of Education and Masters of School Administration in Educational Leadership from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from North Carolina A&T State University.
I am thrilled to have Dr. Legrand join the DCPS Leadership Team later this fall, and I hope you will join me in welcoming her to our district.
