More than 70 IPS students received their high school diplomas during the district’s Summer Graduation ceremony on Sep. 11 inside Anderson Auditorium at Arsenal Technical High School.
The annual program is hosted for students who complete their graduation requirements after the summer school session. This year’s program included graduates from Arsenal Tech, Crispus Attucks, George Washington and Shortridge high schools.
“This commencement is provided for the students and families to come together across the district and celebrate their accomplishments and future plans for postsecondary success,” said Flora Jones, postsecondary readiness director.
According to Jones, students who have not completed the state graduation requirements by the June graduation timeline may participate in the Summer Graduation ceremony if all requirements are completed. Students may fall into this category based on multiple reasons, including a need to complete the ISTEP exam offered in the summer, failing several courses required for graduation, illness, family issues, or any other unexpected life challenges.
Despite setbacks, these students continued to push to achieve their goal of obtaining their high school diplomas. Congratulations, graduates!
