Riding for a Cause

Join The Dream Ride — a motorcycle ride that supports the U.S. Dream Academy of Indianapolis, housed at Charles W. Fairbanks School 105. The program, which operates in seven locations throughout the United States, helps children with incarcerated parents turn hope into reality.

The Dream Ride begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, with registration and a silent auction at Old National Bank, 8930 E. 65th St. Coffee, doughnuts and commemorative T-shirts will be available while supplies last.

After registration, the schedule includes:

  • 10 a.m.: Leave Old National Bank for the Dream Academy Learning Center, 8620 Montery Road, for a rider reception from the “Dream Kids.”
  • 11 a.m.: Depart from the Dream Academy for a ride through Hancock County to American Legion Post 117, 611 W. State St., Pendleton, Ind. Food will be served and silent auction winners will be announced.
  • 2 p.m.: An optional ride to Fairmount, Ind., to the annual James Dean Festival. Exclusive parking will be available in Playacres Park.

Arsenal Tech’s 5K Run & Walk Supports Students

The annual Arsenal 5K Run & Walk will begin at 9 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, on the beautiful and historic campus of IPS’ Arsenal Technical High School, 1500 E. Michigan St.

The deadline for online registration has closed, but on-site registration will be available Saturday morning for $25 per adult. Students and children may participate for free but must be registered and have a signed waiver to participate.

Pre-registered participants can pick up race bibs and packets between 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, at the Chase Near Eastside Legacy Center, 727 N. Oriental St. Bibs and packets can also be picked on at Tech on race day at 8 a.m.

Over the last 16 years, the Arsenal 5K Run/Walk has donated more than $45,000 in college scholarships to area seniors and recently granted monetary awards to extracurricular clubs at Arsenal Technical High School.
