Schools Board of School Commissioners will meet for an Action Session at the
John-Morton Finney Education Center. Topics to be addressed at this meeting
include:
- High School Academic Model Planning: Commissioners will learn about proposed career academies
and pathways for IPS high schools. The district wants to implement Choice Career
Academies at every high school. The proposal will identify planning partners
and a work-based learning framework.
- Preschool Admissions: Commissioners will learn the current state of preschool
admissions in IPS. They’ll also hear recommendations and rationale for filling
open seats while understanding the number of spots available and the demand for
those seats.
- Additional Appropriation: IPS budgets are tighter than ever before. Therefore, IPS may
need to request an additional appropriation. This additional appropriation
represents a nearly 1 percent increase from the initial appropriation. This is
an annual process.
- Classified RIF (Reduction in Force) Policy: Guidelines are critical
to the implementation of student-based allocation, as it was intended. Changing
the policy will give the necessary autonomy to school administrators to choose
the staff working in their building. The Board will vote on the new guidelines.
- Presentation of Valedictorians and Salutatorians: From immigrating from another country
to overcoming extreme obstacles, our 2017 valedictorians and salutatorians have
graduated at the top of their class. The commissioners will recognize these
scholars during the Board meeting.
