Two IPS schools will welcome new principals.
During the Action Board Session on Thursday, Dec. 14, IPS School Commissioners approved the hiring of principals for Northwest Middle School and IPS/Butler University Laboratory School at Eliza Blaker.
Dr. Kyle G. Barrentine has been hired as the new principal of Northwest Middle School. He will assume his role Jan. 2, 2018. Northwest will transition from a high school to a middle school beginning with the 2018-19 school year. The decision is part of the district’s high school consolidat
Barrentine received his bachelor’s degree in communications from Butler University, a master’s in education from Indiana Wesleyan University, and his doctorate in educational leadership from Indiana State University.
He’s served as assistant principal and principal at various schools throughout Indiana. Barrentine comes to IPS from Decatur Middle School, where he served as principal.
Nicole Kent has been hired as principal of the IPS/Butler University Laboratory School at Eliza Blaker. She will assume her new role on July 1, 2018.
Kent received bachelor’s degrees in Spanish and early middle childhood education from Butler University, and a master’s from Columbia University in New York City.
Since August 2016, she has served as assistant principal at IPS/Butler University Laboratory School 60. Before that, she worked as a teacher at the school from 2012-2016.
Butler Lab School at Eliza Blaker is the second location of the popular Reggio Emilia teaching philosophy within the district.
In addition to having a long history at Butler Lab School 60, Kent was named IPS/Butler Lab School’s Teacher of the Year in 2014 — the same year she was a Top 10 finalist for IPS Teacher of the Year.
