Diane Arnold, District 4

As we prepare to celebrate some outstanding alums this evening at the IPS Hall of Fame Awards, I want to give a shout out to every graduate of an IPS high school.

As a proud graduate of George Washington High School (Class of 1971), I have wonderful memories of my classmates, teachers, and winning the 1969 IHSAA State Basketball Tournament.

Today, I am a proud member of the IPS Board of School Commissioners. We are creating new opportunities for our future graduates to be successful through employment, enlistment or enrollment in postsecondary institutions.

Thank you to our dedicated administration, building leaders, teachers and all staff members for creating excellent opportunities and memories for our future Hall of Fame recipients.

Greetings to all Indianapolis Public Schools alumni.  It was more than 50 years ago that I graduated from Emmerich Manual Training High School.  What positive memories I have of my educational experience there!  Talent performances, football games and sectionals, prom, and driver’s ed, my favorite teacher Mr. Stern.  Those were rewarding days for me.  Imagine my excitement to come back to Manual to teach in the early 90’s!   I hope all of you have positive memories of your IPS high school experience.  Indianapolis Public Schools has a long history of providing academic, artistic, athletic, and social opportunities for the greater Indianapolis community, and I look forward to its continuation as an integral part of what makes Indianapolis a great city.
