College-bound students in need of help filling out their FAFSA form (the Free Application for Federal Student Aid) can receive assistance during College Goal Sunday at 2 p.m. Feb. 25, 2018.

This free statewide event, held at various times throughout the year and at multiple locations, offers students and parents help from financial-aid experts.

Held at 40 locations throughout Indiana, IPS’ Arsenal Technical High School (1500 E. Michigan St.) and George Washington High School (2215 W. Washington St.) are two of the sites in Indianapolis.

“College Goal Sunday is a great event to attend to get a better understanding of the financial aid that will be available for families,” said Andrew McAulay, lead school counselor at George Washington High School. “It also helps them know how much money college will cost for them out-of-pocket.”

George Washington will host College Goal Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. The event will begin in the cafeteria with free hot dogs and nachos and then move into the school’s Media Center to complete the FAFSA forms. School staff and several community partners will be available to assist families.

McAulay said a drawing to win a $500 scholarship will also be held at the end of the event for George Washington students.

At George Washington, enter Door 22 (near the cafeteria). Parking is available on the west side of the building near Tremont Street.

“As long as people arrive before 4 p.m., we will help them complete their forms,” said McAulay.

At Arsenal Technical High School, College Goal Sunday will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Media Center.

While the event is being hosted to complete the FAFSA forms, staff will also assist families with checking their 21st Century Scholars status and providing support with college applications. Representatives from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education will also be at both locations.

To help the application process run smoothly, families should bring their most recent tax information. For more information on College Goal Sunday (including necessary documentation), visit www.collegegoalsunday.org.

The deadline to complete FAFSA forms is April 15, 2018.
