As IPS students and teachers head back to school tomorrow, one class will share a special memory from their summer break.  Marielle Slagel Keller teaches a kindergarten first grade combination class at the IPS Butler Lab School.  A few weeks ago, she got married and invited her entire class to be flower girls and boys in the wedding.  Twenty students walked down the aisle wearing all white and carrying garland.  Ms. Keller said when it came time to choose her flower girl and ring bearer, the only children who came to mind were the ones in her class!

“They mean the world to me,” said Ms. Keller.  “The kids and their families were part of the whole wedding planning process with me and gave me so much support along the way.  They are a huge part of who I am and it would not have felt right to not have them there.”

The girls and boys in Ms. Keller's kindergarten/first grade class were flower girls and boys in her wedding.

As for the students, the photos captured that day say it all!  The children took great pride in being part of their teacher’s wedding.  For some of them, it was the first wedding they had ever attended!  Because Ms. Keller teaches a multiage class, the kindergarteners who were in the wedding this summer will be in her class again this year for first grade.
