(July 31, 2018) — Indianapolis Public Schools is pleased to announce all four of its Center for Inquiry Schools are now authorized to offer the Primary Years Programme (PYP) International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum to students in kindergarten through grade five. This distinction came when the final school added to the group, CFI School 70, located at 510 E. 46th St., received its authorization earlier this month. The IB program develops students who are inquiring, knowledgeable and caring of their world and ready to take action in making our world a better and more peaceful place.
“When replicating CFI to a fourth campus, our practice of seeding the new school with experienced CFI teachers from other schools, allowed us to build and develop the culture and curriculum of our IB model,” said CFI 70 Principal Chris Collier. “I applaud the work of the staff, led by our IB Coordinator, Karla Reilly, in developing a program that supports our parents and students in embracing the inquiry-based and globally focused approach to learning.”
PYP IB authorization is a multi-year process in which schools work through prospective and candidacy phases leading up to a verification visit by an IB team of educators. CFI 70 began the process in spring of 2016, just prior to its first year of operation.
Benefits of the IB program for students include encouraging independent thought, participating in educational programs that can lead to admittance in some of the highest-ranking universities around the world, becoming more culturally aware through the development of a second language, and the ability to engage with people in a rapidly changing world.
The first CFI school opened within IPS 25 years ago and was housed in one wing of a larger IPS school for students in grades kindergarten through five. The program has now blossomed to include four campuses, with more than 160 staff members, serving more than 1,400 children in grades kindergarten through eight.
CFI School 70 joins CFI School 2, 725 N. New Jersey St.; CFI School 84, 440 E. 57th St.; and CFI School 27, 545 E. 19th St. as fully authorized to operate the PYP IB curriculum.
