Attucks Boys

The
Crispus Attucks Boys Basketball Team ripped through IHSAA Sectional 27 last
weekend in route to their third sectional
title in four years (their first in class 3A).

The Attucks
Tigers defeated Herron Achaeans of Herron High School 117-40, setting an IHSAA
record for largest margin of victory in tournament-class basketball history. In
the semifinal match, Attucks defeated Emmerich Manual High School in an intense,
back-and-forth game that saw the Tigers pull away with four minutes remaining
in the game to secure the victory.

The
championship game featured Attucks against Bishop Chatard. The Trojans of
Bishop Chatard battled, but fell well short as the Attucks Tigers cruised to a
63-45 victory, securing the Sectional 27 trophy.

Now the
Tigers are headed for Regionals on March 11!

The
Tigers are led this season by their head coach Chris Hawkins, who has found a
special connection with his players during what is only his first year at
Attucks. Attucks’ star guard, Nike Sibande, was voted to First Team All-City by
the Coaches Association this season. Sibande is averaging more than 23 points
and seven rebounds during his senior campaign, as he looks to go out on top.

This year’s Tigers team has received buzz from
media outlets statewide over the last few weeks. Boasting one of the most
high-powered offenses in the state has many high school sports analysts picking
Attucks as a favorite for the 3A State Championship, which would mark the
school’s first since its historic run in the 1950’s, and only the second for
the IPS district since 1981.

Just 16
teams remain in 3A competition. Regional play kicks off Saturday, March 11, in Greencastle’s historic McAnally
Center, 910 E. Washington St. Greencastle, Ind. The Tigers will play the
Northview High School Knights at 10 a.m. The Tigers enter Regionals with a 21-4
record, while Northview comes in at 18-8.

The winner of that 10 a.m. matchup will go on
to play the winner of Tri-West Hendricks High School (22-3) vs. Danville Community
High School (19-8) at 8 p.m. in Greencastle. Looking forward, semi-state games
take place the following Saturday, March 18, with state championship games on
March 25.

To rally behind the team, Crispus
Attucks is encouraging all of its supporters to wear as much green as possible
on Saturday. They calling it a #Greenout!
