Students at Brookside School 54 have multiple after-school activities to choose from on a daily basis, including basketball, ballet, tutoring and Whiz Kids among others.
However, one group of students has chosen to expand their horizons in the art world.
Twenty-five students participate each week in Art Reach, a free program sponsored by the Indianapolis Art Center.
Students spend the semester creating various works of art including pastel and charcoal drawings, clay pots and screen prints.
“We get to create things like vases,” says student Jacorey A. “Just last week we created our own shirts. We made a vase out of clay, then started print making like Andy Warhol.”
What an exciting way to introduce students to the visual arts! We’re proud to have partners like the Indianapolis Art Center that provide programs like Art Reach to our students.
