Calling all IPS 5th and 6th Grade Classes! The Spirit of Freedom Program Registration is Now Open

All IPS 5th and 6th grade teachers
your students are invited to attend a very special annual program that recognizes
African Americans who fought for this country in the Civil War.

 This year’s program will be held:

Tuesday, May 14, 2024
10:45 a.m – 1 p.m.
American Legion Mall 
777 N. Meridian Street

Please note:

  • Field Trip Request/Transportation – Schools should fill out a Field Trip request form and submit to appropriate supervisor(s). Schools are responsible for ordering buses to transport studentsThis is an approved field trip so all schools who wish to participate can participate! Let us know if you have any problem ordering your transportation. 
  • Lunch – Please plan arrangements with the food service representative in your building so lunches can be provided for students attending the program. Buses should arrive at the location no later than 10:15A.M. if students are eating lunch at the program site.
  • Seating/Water – Chairs will be available for adults. Students will be seated on the grass so you may want to bring blankets, etc. Plastic bags will be available. Bottled water will be distributed before students board the bus for the return trip.
  • Restroom  Portable johns will be located on the grounds.
  • First Aid – An IPS nurse will be on duty with first aid supplies for bee stings, etc.
  • Program EvaluationEvaluation forms will be distributed to each teacher. It is important that we receive an evaluation from each participating class.
  • Weather – If it rains, the program will be canceled. This will be confirmed by email.

Interested schools should email the following information to Pat Payne no later than end of day Wednesday, April 17, 2024.

  • Name of school and principal’s name
  • Names of teachers who will attend
  • Number of 5th or 6th graders who will attend

Space is limited and registration will end when 800 fifth/sixth graders are properly registered.
