These are just a few of the amazing things you can find at the Indianapolis Public Schools on the east side!

Twenty-one schools make up our IPS East Learning Community and here are 21 reasons why our east side schools are some of the best in Indy!

  1. Three schools earned “A’s” and three earned “B’s” for this year’s accountability grades ranking them among the highest performing in our district! 
  2. Three schools have the wonderful Project REstore program that works with students to bring up test scores. These programs have been a big success on the east side!
  3. Our East Learning Community is home to the only dedicated preschool building in the district – Francis Bellamy Preschool Center! 
  4. A flight simulator now complements Thomas D. Gregg School 15’s Aviation and Aerospace curriculum. Students can see and feel what it’s like to be on an actual airplane, including being at the controls!
  5. Charles Warren Fairbanks School 105 hosts the only U.S. Dream Academy in the state of Indiana. Students participate in the program afterschool and learn character-building, skill-building and dream-building!
  6. Arsenal Technical High School is home to many outstanding academic programs including the Math/Science Magnet. Students from the magnet placed sixth in a national mathematics competition last year!
  7. George H. Fisher School 93 boasts an incredible partnership with JP Morgan Chase bank. Chase works with school administrators to provide support in key areas. 
  8. Floro Torrence School 83 has one of the best archery programs in the district. Students participate during physical education class and then compete with other schools across the district. 
  9. John Marshall Community High School is home to one of the best JROTC units around. Students participate in color guards across the city, complete field exercises at Camp Atterbury and still have time to academics. For the last five years the John Marshall Valedictorian has been a JROTC cadet.
  10. Arsenal Technical High School is home to the 2014 Indiana State Basketball Champions! Need we say more? Go Titans!
  11. William McKinley School 39 students love reading so much the school hosts Reading Night Out events once a quarter so families and students can come together and read!
  12. Looking for fun afterschool activities? Brookside School 54 has you covered! They’ve got art programs, ballet, sports clinics, and even intramural sports! The list goes on!
  13. Furry, four-legged friends can often be spotted at Paul I. Miller School 114. They partner with the Humane Society of Indianapolis to bring therapy dogs in to read with students! 
  14. The IPS Career Center located at Arsenal Tech has several programs that allow students to run their own businesses. There’s the Colonel’s Cupboard, a student-run restaurant, Studio 212, a student-run hair and nail salon, an auto body shop and even a print shop! (P.S. They’re open to the public!)
  15. George Buck School 94 boasts an incredible partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Indianapolis. Students can participate in the after-school program for as little as $10 a year! 
  16. James Russell Lowell School 51 has multi-sensory instruction in every kindergarten-second grade classroom. All students receive phonics, phonemic awareness and fluency instruction.
  17. Irvington is home to the historic George W. Julian School 57. This school boasts high levels of parent involvement with around 90% of parents showing up to every PTO meeting!
  18. Ralph Waldo Emerson School 58 not only has the coolest playground around (it’s on the roof!) but they also have a long-standing partnership with Taft Law. Taft works with the school to provide support and incentives to the students. 
  19. Anna Brochhausen School 88 is the home of the Bees! And they’re definitely worker bees! The school implemented Project REStore in 2012 and went from an F to an A the following year! 
  20. Robert Lee Frost School 106 not only has elementary students, but middle school students! Robert Frost is one of the only non-magnet elementary schools to go up to 8th grade!
  21. Joyce Kilmer School 69 has some of the best community partners around, including a new partnership with Eli Lilly and Company!
