2024 Summer Resources for Families

Summer resources for families

Summer is a time for fun, relaxation, and making memories with loved ones, but it can also present challenges for families. To support our Indianapolis Public Schools community, we’ve compiled a list of valuable resources available throughout the summer months. From community programs to meal assistance, we aim to ensure that our families have access to the support they need during this time. Check back regularly, as we’ll be updating this post with new information and opportunities as the summer progresses.

Local summer camps, daycares, or schools can register as a group by contacting their local library. Adults can also participate in the Summer Reading Program and earn prizes for reading and completing activities.

IPS Summer Melt Program: Supporting the Class of 2024’s Transition to Post-Secondary Life

The Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) is proud to announce the Summer Melt Program, designed to support the Class of 2024 in their transition to post-secondary life. This program aims to address the “summer melt” phenomenon, where high school graduates who have earned admission to college and intend to attend, do not show up on campus in the fall. Nationally, one in five college-eligible graduates experiences this “summer melt,” particularly those from low-income communities.

From May 28th to July 19th, during school hours, IPS Future Center Associates and school counselors will be focusing on supporting graduates in all of the “E’s” – Enrollment, Employment, and Enlistment. The program offers assistance with finalizing college enrollment, including course selection, orientation registration, communication with college advisors, and financial aid support. For those seeking employment, the program provides resume development, job search assistance, and information on job fairs. Students interested in military enlistment will be connected with relevant personnel. Additionally, the program will connect graduates with community partner organizations for further assistance.

To participate in the IPS Summer Melt Program and receive the support you need, please complete the IPS Senior Survey and sign up for a virtual meeting using the registration form.
