It’s that time of year again, and there’s plenty to do all across Indianapolis this season! Here’s just a sampling of fun events for the whole family!

  1. Pick up a free book to read (or gift!) over break courtesy of Jingle Books! Books are available at Indy Reads Books (911 Mass Ave) or any Indianapolis Public Library location. You can also donate books!
  2. Speaking of books – use your library card at any Indianapolis Public Library location through December 31 and be entered to win a visit from Indianapolis Colts players Andrew Luck and Dwayne Allen!
  3. Celebrate the season with the IMA’s annual Winter Solstice celebration on December 18! There will be ice sculpting, carolers, reindeer and more!
  4. Don’t be a Scrooge! Check out the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis’s “A Seussified Christmas Carol.” With plenty of dates and times to choose from throughout break it’s a fun way to celebrate the holidays!
  5. The IMAX at the Indiana State Museum is having a Polar Express Pajama Party on December 20! Kids in PJs can enjoy THE POLAR EXPRESS 3D for free with the purchase of an adult ticket!
  6. You better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout, I’m telling you why: Rowdie Claus is coming to town! From 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20 the Indianpolis Indian’s mascot will host his annual holiday celebration at Victory Field!
  7. Take a stroll down Georgia Street and enjoy the holiday lights at City Sidewalks!
  8. Come enjoy the winter wonderland at Conservatory Crossing at Garfield Park Conservatory through December 27! 
  9. Cheer on Indianapolis’s newest professional basketball team, the Indy Naptown All-Stars, on December 21 at Arsenal Tech! Admission is free! And students can meet the players!
  10. Let your imagination run wild at Jingle Rails, the Eiteljorg Museum’s annual holiday event! This year features seven trains and an American West theme!
  11. Watch as the Indianapolis Zoo transforms into a winter wonderland with holiday lights, music and more at Christmas at the Zoo!
  12. Lions, tigers and bears, oh my! Celebrate the 75th Anniversary of The Wizard of Oz with Civic Theatre through January 3. 
  13. Cheer on the Pacers as they take on the New Orleans Pelicans on December 23rd! Tickets start as low as $5 (plus there’s no fees through the end of the year).
  14. Ring in the New Year early with the Children’s Museum Countdown to Noon on December 31!
  15. Don’t miss Downtown Indy’s New Year’s Eve party! There will be fun for all ages with tons of activities along Georgia Street and in Bankers Life Fieldhouse! The midnight countdown includes an official IndyCar and fireworks!
  16. What’s your New Year’s resolution? Answer that question on a visit to the Indiana Historical Society and you’ll receive a coupon for free admission anytime during the year!
