Showcase of Schools Highlights Academic Variety at IPS

The Indiana Pacers, Cirque de Soleil and Cher are among those that have been featured at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in downtown Indy. But on Sunday, Nov. 10, Indianapolis Public Schools will be the headliner during the district’s 6th Annual Showcase of Schools.

More than 70 IPS schools will gather to highlight the variety of academic options for students in Pre-K, kindergarten, elementary, middle and high school.

Current and potential students and families will be exposed to interactive, hands-on experiences to gain a better understanding of what each school offers. From STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) to business finance to environmental and creative arts exhibits, families will have a chance to talk with teachers and administrators as they select the best academic paths for their children.

Enrollment specialists will also be available to assist families interested in attending an IPS school.

Admission to Showcase of Schools, which runs from 1–5 p.m., is free and open to the public. Attendees also will receive free food (via Bus Stop Café, the district food bus) and free parking. Free parking is only available in the Virginia Avenue garage (connected to Bankers Life Fieldhouse), but you must tell the parking attendant that you are going to the IPS event or you will be charged $20.

Throughout the afternoon during Showcase of Schools, parents can attend up to three individual sessions geared toward frequently asked questions about the major transitional points for students.

The sessions What to Know if You’re a(n) Elementary/Middle/High School Parent, respectively, will touch on everything from:

  • The developmental and academic phases of elementary school students.
  • Choosing the right high school and academic options for middle school student, as well as information about 21st Century Scholars — a free college tuition program.
  • Graduation requirements for high school students, along with Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) info, internships and work-based learning opportunities.

In addition to IPS schools, dozens of community organizations and businesses that provide services throughout the district will be on-site. These organizations assist students and families in all grade levels with a variety of options and also help to ensure that students achieve the district’s 3Es: Enrollmentin a two or four-year college/university, Enlistmentin the military or Employmentat a livable wage upon graduation.

Showcase is a one-stop shop for all students and parents as they make decisions on the next phase of their academic or career journey.
